The New England Council will meet from June 3rd through the 5th, at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland, ME (agenda here).
There are two presentations of interest to Herring stakeholders at the June meeting, both on day one.
At 11:00 AM, Dr. Bill Overholtz will talk about an ecosystem approach to Herring management.
At 4:00 PM, Council staff will present observer coverage projections for the herring fishery that are expected to fall far short of the levels called for by NMFS' own regulations as developed through the Standardized Bycatch Reporting Methodology.
Most important, there will be a Scoping Hearing for Herring Amendment 4 on the eve of the meeting, at 5:00 PM on Monday June 2nd, also at the Holiday Inn by the Bay (Scoping Document here).
The New England Council will hold the final Scoping Hearing for Amendment 4 on Tuesday June 10th at 6:00 PM, in Atlantic City, New Jersey (Scoping Document here).
The hearing will be held at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel located at 2 Miss America Way Atlantic City, NJ 08401 (609) 344-3535, and coincides with the June meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council
