Read on or just click here to jump to our Action Center and weigh in Back in November the New England Fishery Management Council decided to undertake reforms to the fishery for Atlantic herring, responding in part to an unprecedented number of calls for action from fishery stakeholders and the public. The first step in the creation of these changes is a comment period in which the Council seeks input from the public on what changes should be made to the management plan. This process is called Scoping, and now is the time for interested parties to make sure their voices are heard. Ths Council provides a number of opportunities and avenues for the public to weigh in. There will be four Public Hearings held, on April 30th (Peabody, MA), May 22nd (Portland, ME), June 2nd (Portland, ME) and June 10th (Atlantic City, NJ). Details can be found here. The Council has prepared a Scoping Document that provides background and guidance for the public to help solicit comment, but issues outside the scope of the document are welcomed as well.
